This has been the gloomiest winter ever, and it didn’t help that last summer wasn’t a very hot one. I’m so ready for spring!!!

I can relate to this pretty well considering my lawnmower broke last fall and my yard went through a brief “wild prairie” period. Tonight we’ll not only have the first full moon of this year but also the biggest, brightest moon of all of 2010. Some scientists are even calling tonight’s phenomenon a “Supermoon” because it’s going to be so huge (30% bigger than any other full moon this year) and bright (14% brighter than any other), which means if you live somewhere with clear skies you’ll really get to see some impressive details not normally visible on the moon’s surface. It’s gonna be cold but I can’t wait to see it. It’s really not like me to get so excited about a road construction project being completed but this Outer Drive extension thing is an exception. I’ve lived in Sioux City for about 6 years now (wow, didn’t think it was that long til I started doing the math) and one thing I remember hearing about since the very beginning was how wonderful that Outer Drive bypass would be when it was finished. I admittedly haven’t followed it all that closely but became especially interested in it when I moved over to the east side of the RR tracks last year. Those trains are FRUSTRATING! And until now there was no option other than to deal with them and either be 15 mins early or 15 mins late to wherever you were going. So today I really wish I had a car so I could go toodling along that road, amidst the hordes of other people I’m sure have the same idea. With its $35 million price tag and (how many?) years in the making it’s a fairly historic event that it’s now open. That little one mile connection between Floyd and Lewis Blvd is the single most expensive stretch of road ever built in this town and I’m just happy it’s finished. Finally. |
