- Nodar Kumaritashvili, the Georgian luge competitor, who died in a tragic accident before the games even started.
- Bode Miller’s happy comeback. I remember him from the last Olympics and am so happy to see him come back again with a new attitude and fresh outlook (and looking as scruffy-cute as ever) to win a bronze, a silver, and a gold!
- That everybody around me seems to be in love with cross-country skiing and curling and I just don’t get it.
- How horrible it was to watch skier after skier wipe out dramatically on those downhill slopes — including one guy in particular who was knocked unconscious and slid down the hill like a limp noodle.
- How amazing it is that when the athletes fall and go careening off the course, in whatever sport, and end up with deep bruises, broken bones, and serious internal injuries that instead of seeing tears and shreds over their butts and elbows their performance suits are somehow unscathed.
- How from the luge accident to the torch not working properly during the opening ceremonies to the weather not cooperating to that zamboni issue on the speed skating ice, poor Canada just couldn’t catch a break when it came to hosting the games smoothly.
- Sean White, who’s cocky attitude kinda rubs me the wrong way but wow, he can really back it up and come through.
- Plushenko’s horribly immature reaction to losing the men’s ice skating gold medal to Evan Lysacek, including declaring himself the winner anyway and making up his own “Platinum” medal as some sort of snub.
- Apollo Anton Ohno setting the new record for most decorated Winter Olympian, and how frustrating speed skating is in general with all the disqualifications that look like either total accidents or completely unavoidable.
- How most of the bobsled teams appeared to wearing superhero costumes.
